Wild Yam and Chaste Berry Effects

Today is day 3 of my use of the wild yam and chaste berry cream.

I have applied it five times in these last three days.

With the positive effects that I have noticed, there are also, while not completely negative, but rather, interesting effects.

Most women wouldn't notice any effects (probably), so soon after taking the cream, but because I am really sensitive, I have noticed and experienced some of these effects. They're not so bad, so hopefully they will remain this way (or just improve).

  • Feeling sleepy - since yesterday (Sunday or my second day of the use of the cream), I have noticed that I have been feeling sleepier than normal. Normally I don't get to bed until 2am or even later, but since I started using the cream, I have been feeling tired around 11pm, which is highly unusual for me. It also could be associated with the fact that I have been exercising a lot more lately, so that would make me feel sleepier. I'll try to have more sleep and see if that improves this effect or not.
  • Digestive problems - I have noticed that my stomach and digestion have been a bit off since I started using the cream. I normally get digestion issues, but it seems like they have been a little bit worse these past few days - for example, I have been getting a bit more gas than normal (so it's not anything too severe).  It's not really so bad that I am in pain, but rather that my symptoms are just a little worse, but not bad enough to cause me serious pain.  I'll monitor this to see if there is a correlation between the cream and my digestion symptoms.
  • Dizziness - since yesterday evening, I have noticed a bit of dizziness when I turn around or get up quickly. Nothing really severe, just duly noted that it is there and just a little bit. I first attributed it to middle ear infections which I quite often get and which are caused by the chronic sinusitis I get, but since my sinuses and nasal passages are getting clearer, then it probably isn't attributed to them, but rather the cream. Even still, the dizziness is nowhere near the severeness of symptoms I get during the middle ear infections. The dizziness is very mild and I expect it will go away soon.
All of the research I have done suggests that these side effects are documented, but have never shown to be very severe and either stay at the same level or improve over time.

The sleepiness could definitely be attributed to the extra exercise I have been doing and because the cream is working on my adrenal cortex and pituitary gland, it's probably also regulating my melatonin and making me feel sleepy at normal times of the night. The digestive problems, I am not sure about. The dizziness I think will definitely improve or not get worse as it is so mild, it isn't anything to worry about.

PMS has started early for this month, already

PMS has started already this month, early.

I think because I have been rather inactive these past three weeks and have had to deal with a very stressful situation (which I am trying to extricate myself  from), that's most likely causing PMS to start early.

I haven't been active or doing much exercise these past three weeks, because I have been really sick with the flu from just before the start of my previous months' periods and I am only now just starting to get better! It's been a very virulent flu virus that got me and I am still coughing and have sinusitis as well as feel very lethargic and tired.

At the moment, it's just my breasts that feel rather full and heavier than normal and my stomach is bloated out, it juts out when I sit down and that's not normal for me when I don't have PMS.

I don't mind having full, heavy and even painful breasts and the fluid retention that goes on in the rest of my body, but I do not want the emotional symptoms - the anger, irrational thinking, depression, anxiety and everything else that goes with it, to a varying degree, for those days before my periods start.

Last night I did about 15 minutes of exercise - not much, but I didn't have much energy to do more. Today, I did 30 minutes of exercise, so I hope that, combined with eating more fruits and vegetables and taking all my vitamins/minerals, can help to prevent the worst of the fluid retention and other PMS symptoms.  I probably also need to do some meditation too. Maybe I will do some tonight, before I go to sleep, which will be very soon.

PMS and Menustration Update

I haven't updated this blog in a while and I will try to be more diligent about it from now on, at least to post something every month, around the time of PMS and just into my menstrual cycle, to try to post how it's going with me.

The intervening months since I last posted, my periods have been quite regular, more than ever, with my periods coming usually every 28-30 days almost every cycle, other than one or two which were very irregular and my periods not starting for almost 38 days after my last one, but they were the exception rather than the rule.

In addition to this, I have been experiencing milder period pain most months. Sometimes though, I still get really painful periods for say two cycles and then mild pain for several cycles and then again the severe pain for two cycles. It's been this way for as long as I can remember, so that is normal for me.

The PMS/PMDD symptoms have been fluctuating up and down, mainly depending on a number of factors:
  • what I have been eating in the preceding month
  • how much I have been exercising in the preceding month
  • if there have been any emotional conflicts in the preceding month
I have found that if there have been a lot of emotional conflict (especially if I am keeping in or repressing emotions) and I haven't been exercising enough in the preceding month, those two factors are enough to cause severe PMS/PMDD and cause me to have very painful periods too. So it's like a double whammy - not just the emotional symptoms, but also the physical ones too both prior to menstruation and during menstruation.

I think the emotional aspect is really an important one as it has quite a major bearing on how my body deals with the hormones that are fluctuating during PMS time. If there are many negative emotions that have not been released, this can be enough to cause PMS/PMDD symptoms to be quite severe and the more negative emotions there are, the worse the PMS becomes, more like PMDD.

Eating properly and exercising adequately are normal for me to do, as I eat really well, I dont eat much that is not good for me and I do some exercise just about every day. So for me, it's the emotional aspect that is the issue with my PMS symptoms.

Wonderful PMS and Menstruation This Month

What a surprise this month's PMS has been.

Let me just recap on the symptoms I normally experience for about 2 weeks each month. with symptoms the worst in the last few days before menstruation and the absolute and utter worst the day to two days before menstruation (yes, I am not kidding here)!!
  • Severe bloating of the whole body (about 1-2kg)
  • Sore, painful breasts (cant hug anyone as they are too sore)
  • Very tired and lethargic
  • Seriously cranky with major mood fluctuations
  • Feeling emotional and crying for no reason
  • Very irritable
  • Headache
  • Blood sugar level fluctuations and craving sweet foods
  • Insomnia
  • Severe confusion and forgetfulness
This is basically all of the symptoms a woman can have prior to menstruation.

Some months when my menstrual cycle has been very erratic and long (6 weeks or so between menstrual cycles), PMS was then extended to 4 weeks - this was basically hell because all my symptoms were completely exaggerated and severe for 4 whole weeks! Imagine how horrible that would be?

Now this month, because I have been eating so well, exercising and doing the detoxification, my symptoms were unbelievably minimal in PMS. This is a list of the symptoms I experienced this month at PMS:
  • Some bloating (but nowhere near as much as normal)
  • Bloated breasts, but not painful at all
  • Slightly irritable only the day before menstruation started

Yes, that is it! That was the extent of my PMS! Now for someone who normally experiences really severe PMS, to have such a normal mental and physical time prior to menstruation is wonderful, absolutely wonderful!

This has been the best PMS of my life - because it basically was not PMS. But not only that, my periods this month were absolute bliss! I had no pain this month.

Now that in itself is pretty amazing, as I am normally in excruciating pain that all I can do is just lie down and try to relieve it in whatever way I can. Drugs normally just take the edge off the pain for maybe 1 hour or so and that is no relief when you can only take medication every 4-6 hours! I had given up on the medication (Naprogesic, Ponstan) for period pain, as it does nothing for me and my pain.

To have a month where I felt absolutely no pain or discomfort whatsoever, without any medication, is truly amazing! I used to be in awe of those friends/acquaintance who would tell me that they hardly noticed they were menstruating. I always knew I was menstruating, the pain I was in for about 3-4 days of my periods always made sure of that! But this month, I was only of those women who hardly noticed they were menstruating! Pure bliss!!

Now, I shall continue to eat the same way I have been eating (healthy food, but not denying myself things like organic dark chocolate or some ice cream a few times a week), exercising, detoxifying with the massaging and meditating. I will continue with all these techniques and see how my PMS and period pain is next month - hopefully it will continue to be bliss.

The other exciting thing I need to mention is that my cycle was exactly 29 days, to the hour this month! Last month my periods started at 7pm, this month, they started at 7pm 29 days later. That has never happened before! Normally my menstrual cycle ranges anywhere from 29 - 45 days, with an average of about 31-32 days between my periods. So to have my periods be this regular, is truly an amazing gift!! Wonderful!! Hopefully this means that my cycle will be more regular from now on and pain free! Yipee!!

Thank goodness for the lovely relief this month!! I really hope it will continue next month and beyond!
